Comedy Event For Boys & Girls Club

Numi Wahby, one of our Seniors has created a comedy event as part of his Senior Capstone Project to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club.  The event is at Jon Lovitz’s Comedy Club at the Universal City Walk and is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, starting at 8 pm.  Tickets are only $20 but seating is limited.  Come out and support this worthy event.  Also, Mt. Sierra College would like to thank Jon Lovitz for making his club available again for this event.  Last year Jon’s club hosted another Senior Capstone event created by Emmanuel Lao that was hosted by Jo Koy to support the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.  The faculty and staff at Mt. Sierra College are proud of our students who give back to the community. -dj

The Final Exam Zone

With apologies to Rod Serling.

You’re traveling through another term, a term not only of sight and sound but of mind; journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.  That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop, the Final Exam Zone.

So here you are…not all assignments have been completed or submitted to your instructor.  Your final exam or final project is worth 30% of your overall grade.  You think that even if you aced the final exam or earned a 100% on the project, your final grade is still far below your expectations.

If time management is an art, you are still drawing with crayons.  You are afraid to approach your instructor because he or she has mentioned to you several times about your missing assignments.  Give up?  No…talk with your instructor! Faculty know that there are many reasons students fall behind, but unless there is communication between you and your instructors, they may just think that you don’t care.  And if you don’t care why should they?  When you take ownership of your education faculty always respond in a positive manner.

Find out if you can submit late assignments; even if you receive a lower grade.  A C is still far better than an F.  -dj

Attendance: The Act or Fact of Attending

at·ten·dance

Pronunciation: \ə-ˈten-dən(t)s\

Function: noun

Date: 14th century

1 : the act or fact of attending
2 a : the persons or number of persons attending; also : an account of persons attending <the teacher took attendance before starting class> b : the number of times a person attends

Your attendance matters to us and your overall success here at Mt Sierra!

You are now past the cut-off date to drop a course and get your money back.  So every class from this point on counts toward your GPA and financial well being.

We track your attendance on a daily basis!  If we see you are missing a class, we will be in touch with you not to scold you but rather to find out what is going on and to get you back on track before you are dropped from the class.

However this term we want to challenge you to do something a bit different . . .

#1. Make a consious effort to attend all of your classes. If they count, then make them count for something good!

#2. If you cannot attend class, or you need tutoring call and let us know 626.873.2133.

Per policy if you miss 3 classes or 2 weeks of school you will be dropped.  We can’t save you from our policy. Rules are rules after all… but what we can do is advocate for you and let your professors know what is going on.

This is probably all news you have heard before, but we wanted to take the time to tell you again because we desire to see you succeed!

Please join us in making this the best term yet here at Mt Sierra!

- A Message from Student Services

Every single one of you has something that you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.
